Oxbow 1

An oxbow is a natural formation where a river’s meandering produces a U-shaped bend in its stream. This piece takes as its form the idea of flowing through the oxbow: expectations are set in an opening section, before being diverted into a new and incongruous space. The piece then angles back towards its beginning, moving through materials, stages that occurred earlier, but these reprises are not direct. They bear the travel and journeying that the piece has proceeded through, leading to returns that are transformed. We may proceed back towards the point we turned from, but a true reunion is not possible. We instead overshoot our destination and find ourselves launched into a space that feels at once new, yet carrying the residue and patina of our past. Oxbow 1 is written for Longleash.
